In 2017, three years after a UN Commission of Inquiry exposed “unparalleled” atrocities in North Korea, meaningful progress toward accountability remained elusive. As global attention waned, a group of North Korean survivors approached Korea Future’s co-founders, seeking support to advance justice. Mandated to respond, Korea Future was founded in London, home to the largest North Korean refugee diaspora outside of the Korean peninsula.
Today, Korea Future is the leading organisation advancing justice for North Korean survivors, and remains the sole organisation that has so far secured accountability on their behalf. Through evidence-based insights, we inform governments, legal bodies, and international institutions working to hold perpetrators accountable for human rights violations in North Korea.
