Korea Future cited in the Special Rapporteur’s report to the 46th Human Rights Council

Korea Future’s recommendations for accountability are cited in the latest report of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in North Korea to the 46th Human Rights Council.

The report references our submission that repudiating violence in North Korea will not be sufficient to prevent and counter atrocity crimes. To uphold international human rights law and to protect the fundamental human rights of North Korean citizens, we propose a greater emphasis from multiple actors on emerging tools of accountability and justice mechanisms that have developed since the publication of the 2014 Commission of Inquiry. The realisation of accountability for alleged perpetrators who reside in North Korea remains challenging, but a focus on what is possible and achievable today, rather on what is not possible or may become possible tomorrow, is a prudent approach.
